"Something is broken in comics!"
In the latest episode of the ComixLaunch podcast, host Tyler James has an insightful conversation with Ray Chou about the state of comic books and role-playing games.
Some of you might not know that before I turned to role-playing games, I was in the comic book business. A leftover from that time is that I’m still listening to a podcast called ComixLaunch, hosted by Tyler James. In the latest episode, James and guest Ray Chou compare the comic book and tabletop game markets. Chou has a lot of experience in both and successfully Kickstarted The Wildsea RPG back in 2020.
If you're a creator of tabletop role-playing games and think things are bad, wait until you hear about the situation in comic books. Chou also predicts that the current tabletop games "bubble" will soon burst. The two also take a few jabs at Wizards of the Coast, the recent OGL fiasco, and the dire consequences for the Dungeons & Dragons movie. Much fun for everybody.
If you develop and crowdfund your role-playing game products, I recommend that you start listening to ComixLaunch. The podcast focuses on Kickstarting comic books, but the same techniques used for comic books can also be applied to role-playing games. There are over 500 episodes, so there’s a lot of catching up to do if you’re late to the party.
