I'm not a big fan of thick rulebooks, and I don't like endless lists of skills and abilities. I like it when the RPG creators go for a more minimalistic style. But sometimes, they can go too far.
Interesting idea for my home game, but a house rule doesn't really help when writing for the masses. But I do appreciate the outside-the-box thinking. We need more of that!
Official material - dont expect much. Very free 3pp license is there for a reason, right?
But whoever is writing the Expert should read this. A generic batch of options for secondary skills does make sense, tracking just a good example. The Rules has a space for secondary skills, but left it open (unless you include magic schools) ...
I haven’t found the absence of a dedicated Tracking skill to be an issue in my games. However, I do find Myths & Legends to be overly broad—it often covers everything from culture and politics to history and heraldry, making it feel like a catch-all. While having fewer skills keeps the game fast and accessible, it also leads to rapid character progression. Over time, characters start to feel more alike (so keep the Heroic Abilities diverse, people!). Some refinement could really help balance simplicity with diversity in character growth. Would love to see how future editions address this!
I totally agree that Myths & Legends is too broad to be considered a single skill for the whole world. One way for the GM to address this is by applying a bane when a PC is outside their home country, and a double bane when they are outside their home region.
I haven’t noticed the PCs starting to feel alike over time, but it does get a bit boring when a PC keeps doing the same thing over and over. As a GM, I like to put the wrong PC in the wrong place at the wrong time and see how they handle the situation.
I don’t find Dragonbane to be a crude weapon, but it’s not exactly the tip of the sword either. With some sharpening, it could really stand out compared to earlier Swedish editions. I believe Free League will get there one day, and I wouldn't entrust that responsibility to anyone else.
I think you should add Tracking (INT) as a secondary skill in whatever material you do that is relevant.

Home game or relevant 3pp, is what I mean.
